A 54-year-old Flemington man said he was fishing in the South Branch Raritan River when he noticed a beaver swimming nearby, Raritan Township police said. The man lost sight of the beaver only for the beaver to resurface and attack the victim, biting him on both legs, police said.
While trying to defend himself, the victim was also bitten on the hand, police said The victim was able to get himself out of the water, police said.
First responders transported the victim to Hunterdon Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, police said. The beaver was not located, police said.
